Formula 1 racer Liam Lawson disclosed he narrowly avoided a life-threatening accident during Sunday's Mexico City Grand Prix when a pair of track officials crossed the track directly in front of him

The concerning event happened on the third circuit when marshals were seen on the racing surface as Lawson was getting back on the race following an quick visit to the pits to swap his broken nose section

Driver's Immediate Reaction

Immediately after, the team's competitor Lawson radioed to his race engineer saying: "Are you kidding me? Did you just see that? I could have... killed them"

"I honestly couldn't believe what I was seeing"

"I came out on a fresh hard compound tires, and then I got to Turn One and there were just two individuals dashing across the track"

F1's overseeing organization, the global motorsport federation, is actively examining the circumstances

"After an occurrence at turn one, the race directors was informed that wreckage remained on the track at the critical section of that bend" commented the governing body

"During the third lap, marshals were informed and made ready to go onto the racing surface and remove the wreckage once the entire field had cleared the area"

"Immediately when it was understood that Lawson had made a pit stop, the directives to deploy personnel were canceled and a safety warning flag was raised in that section"

"We are still investigating what happened after that point"
